Ivor King – The Piling People
Established in 1974, we are one of the UK’s leading Sheet and Bored Piling contractors. We specialise in the design and installation of retaining wall solutions for challenging environments — including rivers, canals, locks, harbours, docks, marinas, reservoirs, and tidal/inter-tidal zones — as well as land-based infrastructure. Our bespoke piling solutions support a wide range of water infrastructure and flood defence projects across the UK and beyond. Delivering Intelligent, Integrated Piling Solutions Ivor King has built its reputation as a trusted name in sheet piling, consistently delivering reliable solutions for retaining structures in even the most complex environments. While sheet piling remains at the heart of our business, we also offer integrated solutions that combine CFA (Continuous Flight Auger) and bored piling techniques, allowing us to provide a flexible, multi-disciplined approach that brings real value to our customers — particularly where projects demand a tailored, hybrid piling solution. Working across tidal and inter-tidal zones, on or adjacent to rivers, canals, docks, locks, reservoirs, and marinas, our piling solutions are designed with the specific challenges of water infrastructure in mind. From flood defence systems to water utility assets and quay wall stabilisation, we understand the complexities of access, ground conditions, environmental sensitivity, and structural integrity in water-based settings. Powered by People, Backed by First-Class Facilities At the core of Ivor King is a highly skilled team — some of the industry’s most experienced engineers, designers, and site operatives — all committed to delivering excellence on every project. We’re supported by our state-of-the-art central hub, which houses a dedicated training centre, comprehensive maintenance workshop and fabrication facilities, and a fully integrated in-house transport and logistics department, ensuring we can respond swiftly and efficiently to customer needs nationwide. Experience, Values and Investment That Make a Difference Our strength lies in the breadth and depth of our knowledge, developed over five decades and grounded in strong traditional family values. This ethos drives our commitment to quality, innovation, and a customer-first approach, ensuring we not only meet but consistently exceed expectations. We aim to build long-term relationships with our clients by offering smart solutions and outstanding service. We’re proud to work across a wide range of sectors — from major civil infrastructure and water utilities to road, rail, and environmental protection and flood alleviation schemes — contributing to vital projects across the UK. Our client portfolio includes leading principal contractors and government agencies, such as the Environment Agency, Canal & River Trust, and Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru (Natural Resources Wales), who trust us to deliver safe, cost-effective, and technically advanced piling solutions. Innovative Equipment and Specialist Techniques With over £15 million invested in the last five years in specialist plant, equipment, and transport infrastructure, we’re fully equipped to meet the most demanding project requirements. Our vibration-free and low-impact piling solutions are particularly well-suited to sensitive environments, including urban locations, heritage sites, and over-water structures. We are also proud to lead the field in silent piling solutions, offering specialist equipment such as the Giken Supercrush system — ideal for hard ground, including rock — and the Giken GRB System, which enables ‘footprint-free’ installations from the top of previously driven piles. These advanced vibration-free techniques are especially effective on sloping ground, restricted sites, and sensitive waterway environments where conventional methods may not be feasible. Please head to our website to look at our Case Studies for specific industry examples of the solutions we’ve created to gain more insight into the expertise and quality of work you can expect from Ivor King.
